by BR25 ini wanted to know everyones opinion on him losing his show and his comments.. first of all i do think his comments warrant the cancellation of his show, but it should have never got that far.
when you are talking with family it should never leave the house.
it should stay behind closed doors.

I like Dog, sometimes watch his show, but I don't think he is by nature a racist. I think he was hurt and angry about and for his son. Oftentimes, people will lash out in anger when in a confrontation with another human being, especially with someone that they are very emotionally attached to. As a result, they will use the most demeaning and humiliating terms that come to mind, to ESPECIALLY hurt the one that they feel has hurt them. The words c*nt, who*e, and sl*t are especially hurtful to females; while the term n*gger* is especially demeaning to a black person.
I think his apology was sincere -- and should be accepted at face value. I believe he just was severely hurt and ranting as a result of it.

So...I got duped today!
by lovelylil ini am one of those people who always gives money to those who ask me on the street.
the reason is because there was a time when i was a kid that my siblings and i needed to beg on the street for food money because mom and dad were both addicts.. anyway, i was on my way into walmart and a lady stopped me and asked if i could give her a few dollars ($5 to be exact) so that she could pick up a prescription for some medicine.
she explained that she and her kids have been sick with bronchitis and although the kids were better she was not and had run out of money until her check came on the first of the month.. i can also sympethize with having to wait for government checks to buy what you need having grown up on state welfare programs and i reasoned that $5 is nothing for me and my husband because combined we bring in over six figures a year income.

Sometimes in the past I have carried a can of food in my vehicle, and when they approach my vehicle begging for $ I just give them the can of food. Something like beef stew, or soup, or something. I've even given creamed corn.
I just hardly ever carry $ with me because I lose it. I've given in the past when I had some extra change. If they want to buy drugs OR food, makes no never mind to me because when I give it it's a gift: I give it hoping they will purchase necessities.

I generally don't try to be politically correct. The reason that is is because although I can get along with blacks <and no, I don't say "african-americans" like the PC people because they are not african, they were born in america, so they're americans> I know that their culture is not like mine, and they just don't mix.
Ever see the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"? Those are two groups of WHITE people, but their cultures just don't MIX. The white American-born guy in the movie had to become her religion so that he could become acceptable to "her" people. So he did. Jewish culture and Gentile culture don't mix very well. We're all well acquainted with the Jewish Mother calling on the date and asking "Is she Jewish?". Generally, Jews marry their own kind, due to pressure from families; and Asians marry within their own culture, just to keep the conflict down. That may become irrelevant in time, but for now, it's important.
Everyone thinks that if someone says something about their culture, that that is a SLAM. Not really. It's just the way it is, and the sooner people accept how it is, the sooner we will get over all this nonsense. In the above instance, the movie suggested that it was *okay* for a Greek to marry an American, and I can promise you this is NOT TRUE> Greek Fathers want their daughters to marry Greek men. Just the way it is.
When we stop looking to HOLLYWOOD to direct our social interactions, then we can get on with the business of healing. We can get on to appreciate the wonderful diversity of the people in our country, and appreciate the diverse traditions they offer to our culture. The great food, rituals, everything.

someone mentioned that jw's dont think anyone can have true happiness outside of their religion, i dont necessarily buy this.. .
when someone is happy inside the borg, they say its jehovah's blessing, when someone is happy outside the borg they say that satan is blessing them.

I know it's not been easy on you. You have always suffered because of your JW past, as have a bunch of us. Think about the things you *do* have. People are dying over in Iraq to defend our freedoms; Mothers and Sisters are crying because they lost their sons and brothers to the war; Iraqui mothers are crying because they lose their homes, husbands and sons to the war. Some of them don't even have a place to lay their head, and nothing to eat.
Think what you have:
a RIGHT to come here and voice your opinion--
People that care about you (namely me)--
A roof over your head
Food
A way to earn money--
A car
The freedom to come and go as you please; and say what you please. Please remember that several thousands of women and children are abused in those backward countries, and there is no one to help them. The people they *should* trust: their husbands, brothers, fathers, and uncles kill them or marry them off at young ages. There are several THOUSANDS of young Russian, Romanian, etc. women sold off that become prostitutes by dealers. There are also 7-11 year old children sold in malaysia, the phillipines, or wherever, to the delight of the pedophiles from industrialized countries. Women's lives mean nothing over there. Women are NOTHING. NO-THING.
Be glad you're not a girl, and you're not over there. You have standing in a free country for which many would be envious. I agree with you, Dave, that our childhoods with the JWs were filled with abuse, but not near as much as those people over there. Those that are fighting the war, living through the war, or just trying to get their next meal don't care about how bad their childhoods were: they're just trying to stay alive.
Yes, there are victims here in America, and yes, there are people trying to help them. But our childhoods aren't nearly as bad as those people have.
Let's keep it in perspective.

by Elsewhere inmy biological family has been shunning me ever since i daed back in 1998.. my mom opened by saying that she's been thinking about me lately and then we chatted a bit to catch up on news.
i told her about my toilet training my two cats, my recent nose surgery, my running and how things are going well at work.
she told me about how my dad had a medical issue come up in july and how it was treated.. normally my biological family will only contact me when someone dies.

Just give it some time, and take it REAL SLOW and see what happens. Could be that she just wanted to catch up with you, and catch you up on the family news, and that's it. But you know your Mother better than anyone else. Do you think that she was trying to draw you back in? Trap you? Could be just a wierd random freak thing.. and in that case would suck. Could be she just really misses you, as a Mother should.. and wants you in her life again. just take it slow and easy and guard your heart!

It may be hard, but you have to look at your Mom as another poster on JWD. Sometimes she's out, sometimes she's in, but it seems like she's geting closer to being out. Still love her, but just take it like it is: she is confused. That is not a BAD thing. If she KNEW what she wanted, she would DO they wanted her to and not question it. The fact that she is going in, going out, well.. she's confused.. and for one thing: that is good. that shows that she is attempting to think for herself. But she's just scared right now. Give her a chance.
I know it must be hard on you, but just give it time. I think in another year or two, she'll be totally out. It seems like your Mother can't stand the rift between reality and delusion.
In the meantime, have compassion, love her unconditionally, and give her time.
